They’ll be joined by about 140 golfers from a dozen states. The four-person scramble will be Friday and Saturday, May 28 and 29 at Ridgeview Country Club south of Chadron. Proceeds benefit the CSC athletics scholarship fund. Also on tap will be a dinner and auction Friday evening at Assumption Arena. Auction items will include jerseys autographed by all-pro quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Brett Favre and golf packages to play the Bayside course near Ogallala, the Sandhills course near Mullen and the Wildhorse course near Gothenburg. The auction items also will include tickets to Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies games, several paintings, four season passes to Chadron State athletic events and a trip to Deadwood. Tickets to the dinner and auction are $20 and may be reserved by calling the Chadron State Foundation at 308-432-6366 by Thursday. Beebe spent his final year of college football at Chadron State in1988. He then played six years with the Buffalo Bills, one year with the Carolina Panthers and two years with the Green Bay Packers. Tasker, the only special teams player ever to be named the most valuable player in the Pro Bowl, was Beebe’s teammate at Buffalo. Tasker is now a football analyst for CBS. Schroeder was Beebe’s teammate at Green Bay and also played for the Detroit Lions. All three are excellent golfers who are particularly impressive with their long drives. The celebrities will play with the various four-person teams during both rounds Friday and again Saturday morning before forming a team Saturday afternoon. During the action, one individual can “pay to play” with the trio Saturday afternoon to make it a foursome. In addition, a team can bid to be the playing partners with the celebrities during the tourney’s final round. Following the tournament, Beebe, who lives at Yorkville, Ill., will remain in Chadron to conduct one of his “House of Speed” camps on from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 31 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 1. The camp will be open to both boys and girls from ages 10 through high school. While at Chadron State, Beebe set several records, including scoring five touchdowns in one game. During his pro career, he caught 218 passes for nearly 3,400 yards, not counting his receptions in playoff games or the Super Bowl. CSC Athletic Director Brad Smith said it is always great to have Beebe back in Chadron, particularly because he relates to people extremely well. “Don has meant so much to our athletic program and the college,” Smith noted. “We’ve also gotten to know Steve and Bill really well because they’ve both been here several times. They’re all good guys who because of their friendship with Don are willing to take their time to spend a weekend with us. We appreciate that.” © Copyright 2002 by Double Q Country Radio |
