John
Axtell’s voice has become very familiar to Eagle
sports fans. Axtell has been enthusiastically
broadcasting Chadron State College Football and
Basketball since 1988.
Axtell is also known throughout northwest Nebraska as an
accomplished newsman who has his thumb on the pulse of
the community.
Those who know Axtell well point out that he has a
fantastic memory, has news contacts all over the
country, works day and night, calls a spade a spade, is
opinionated, but also has a soft spot in his heart and
his fair in his reporting and announcing.
Axtell’s newscasts also include numerous features on
Chadron State College academics and student activities.
A native of Grant’s Pass, Oregon, Axtell got his start
in radio at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon,
located about 50 miles east of Portland.
Axtell also provides insight on Chadron State College
Sports on Double Q Country radio’s “Eagle Talk” which
airs on Tuesday’s at 4:40 p.m. during the fall and
winter sports seasons.
