A group of state, local, and federal agencies are joining forces to offer a day-long seminar next month on dealing with the impacts of this month's fires in the Northern Panhandle. The seminar will be September 9th at Chadron State College.

UNL extension educator Scott Cotton, one of the seminar coordinators, says topics will include timelines for burned areas to recover, pasture reseeding techniques, managing weeds in burned areas, assessing land and buildings for future fire and safety risk, determining economic impacts of the fire, and health issues.

Agencies taking part in the presentations include Chadron State College, the UNL extension service, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, U-S Forest Service, Nebraska State Forest Service, USDA Farm Service Agency, Upper Niobrara White Natural Resources District, and the Panhandle Weed Management Association.

The seminar, which runs 9 AM to 4 PM, includes lunch, and Cotton says the meal will offer a break from the serious topics of the day by including a humorous speaker.

More information on the September 9th Fire Recovery Seminar is available by contacting Cotton at the Dawes County Extension office in Chadron.

Registration is requested by September 5th.
