LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - It's official. The University of Nebraska Regents voted unanimously to apply for membership in the Big Ten Conference and was accepted Friday afternoon.
Chancellor Harvey Perlman disclosed the plans during the Regents meeting at Varner Hall on the University's East Campus in Lincoln.
The Big 10 has officially accepted Nebraska's application.
Big 10 Commissioner Jim Delany, speaking at a news conference in Lincoln Friday afternoon, stated the Big 10 President's voted unanimously to accept Nebraska as the Big 10's twelfth entry, effective July 1, 2011.
"There was a great deal of enthusiasm on our conference call for accepting Nebraska," Delaney said.
Chancellor Harvey Perlman says the move offers stability "that the Big 12 simply cannot offer."
