The Nebraska State High School Finals Rodeo will remain in Hastings through 2012. Hastings and its Adams County Fairgrounds has been the home of the championship event for the last eight years.
The NSHSFR brings about 160 cowboys and cowgirls to town for 5 days in June every year, with family, friends, and fans boosting the number of visitors into the thousands.
Local co-chairman Judy Mignery says the high school finals rodeo brings a large economic impact to the area, and has even result in a boost in admissions at Hastings College. Mignery also says the rodeo has strong local support, with volunteers helping give the event a family feel.
The rodeo is the culmination of 26 regular season rodeos that qualify the top 30 contestants in each of 10 rodeo events. The top 4 placers in each event at the finals rodeo qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo, held in July.
This year’s state championship will be June 23-to-26 with Nebraska Educational Telecommunications scheduled to once again broadcast the final round on a tape-delayed basis a week later.
