The Wyoming legislature has sent Gov Dave Freudenthal a bill banning texting while driving. Wyoming will become the 20th state with such a ban.
Final approval actually came twice as the state House of Representatives passed the bill 32-26, then rejected a vote to reconsider the earlier action.
Under the law that will take effect July 1st, drivers caught texting or even reading a text would have to pay a $75 fine.
The crime would be a primary offense, meaning police officers could pull motorists over for no other reason than suspecting them of texting.
Traffic safety experts say texting while driving is a growing trend that puts motorists -- especially young drivers -- at risk.
