WHITE COAT CEREMONIES FOR 489 UNMC STUDENTS

     The University of Nebraska Medical Center held White Coat ceremonies in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk in August to recognize 489 new students in pharmacy, nursing, medicine and dentistry.

      The symbolic ceremony had the students take an oath of professionalism and don white coats signifying the beginning of their health care careers.

     The largest group was 132 College of Medicine students in Omaha, which included 7 Rural Health Opportunities Program participants from Chadron State College.

    The RHOP students are Amanda Gehle of Chester, Naomi Matthews of Benkelman, Adam Rassmussen of Mead, Kortany Schultz of Scottsbluff, Joshua Sypal of Seward, and from Fremont Karisa and Kilie Stover-Wooldridge.

    The College of Nursing had the most students...243...take part in the Nightingale White Coat ceremony at its locations in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk.

      The College of Dentistry held its ceremony for 71 new dental and dental hygiene students in Lincoln, and the College of Pharmacy held its White Coat ceremony for 43 students in Omaha.

      The School of Allied Health Professions will hold similar ceremonies in the fall and winter.

      The white coats were paid for in part with donations from UNMC alumni and faculty, the University of Nebraska Foundation and the College of Dentistry Development Fund.
