The U.S. Air Force has issued a draft environmental impact statement on its plans to expand its Powder River Training Complex...the northern Great Plains airspace it uses for bomber training exercises.
Planes that use the complex are B1-B bombers from Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City and B-52 bombers from North Dakota's Minot Air Force Base.
The draft environmental report outlines potential impacts dealing with noise, air quality, the use of land and the effect on both ground and air safety.
The Air Force will hold a series of meeting in South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana.to get public comment on the report and its recommendations.
The Powder River Training Complex is centered just northwest of where South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana meet.
