It will be Republican former governor and U-S Ag Secretary Mike Johanns against Democratic college professor Scott Kleeb in November for the U-S Senate seat being given up by Republican Chuck Hagel.
Johanns was declared the winner early on over political newcomer Pat Flynn, topping 80% of the vote much of the night. With 76% of the precincts counted, his lead had slipped only slightly to 78-22%
Kleeb, who ran a strong race two years ago against Adrian Smith for the 3rd Congressional District House seat, grabbed an early lead over millionaire business executive Tony Raimondo and held it. With 76% of the precincts counted, Kleeb led 68 to 25%.
