The 23rd annual Nebraska Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics begins Sunday morning atop Scotts Bluff National Monument. Law enforcement officers from agencies across the state will carry the torch over the following 4 days to Omaha, concluding Thursday evening at the Special Olympics opening ceremonies at Creight University. The public is encouraged to greet runners along the route, which has the torch spending Sunday night in North Platte, Monday in Lexington, Tuesday Grand Island, and Wednesday in Lincoln The full route is on the Special Olympics Nebraska web site at www.sone.org. Since its inception in 1985, the Nebraska Special Olympics Torch Run has raised more than $2.3 million dollars for Special Olympics and its mission of providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities The Torch Run also provides an opportunity for officers to interact with Special Olympians and the Public in a positive setting to support the worthy mission of Special Olympics Nebraska. © Copyright by Double Q Country Radio |
