ONE NATIONAL GUARD UNIT COMING, ONE GOING

About 180 men and women of the Nebraska Army National Guard are scheduled to arrive back home today (Friday) after more than nine months in Iraq.

Governor Dave Heineman plans to be on hand when the Omaha-based 600th Transportation Company lands at the Guard air base in Lincoln.

Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Bob Vrana says the unit left Nebraska last May, spending 3 months training in North Carolina before arriving at Camp Adder, south of Baghdad, in August

Vrana says the return of the 600th Transportation Company will leave just 88 Nebraska National Guard troops deployed overseas: 47 in Iraq, 33 in Afghanistan and 8 in Kosovo.

Meanwhile, the members of the Panhandle-based 10-57th Transportation Company leave tomorrow for their annual 2-week training period. The unit is once again training in southern California, and will fly into San Diego.
