Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson has been named the 2010 recipient of the Harry S. Truman Award, highest honor given by the National Guard Association of the United States. The Nebraska Democrat was presented with the award Sunday during the association's 132nd conference in Austin, Texas.
The Truman Award is given to individuals who have contributed to the security and defense on the United States. Previous recipients include former presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Nelson...who was nominated for the award by the Nebraska National Guard...says the guard provides an important service for the U.S., and he's proud to work on their behalf. Nelson is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and chairman of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee.
