The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Tuesday approved 2010 waterfowl hunting regulations.

       Waterfowl hunting begins this Saturday with the opening of the early teal and Canada goose seasons, but hunters on state recreation areas can't shoot them for another 3 days.

     State regulations prohibit any hunting until the Tuesday following Labor Day....which is next Tuesday, the 7th.

       A park entry permit is required for vehicles entering the SRAs and parks. Hunting is prohibited within 100 yards of any public use facility or activity area.

     Such areas include picnic areas, campgrounds, private cabins, concession areas, boat ramps, and parking lots.

      Other seasons affected by this regulation include squirrel, which opened Aug. 1, and dove, snipe, cottontail, jackrabbit, rail, raccoon, and Virginia opossum, which open Sept. 1.

      The early teal season is Sept. 4-12 in the High Plains Unit and Sept. 4-19 in the Low Plains. The early Canada goose season is Sept. 4-12. Visit OutdoorNebraska.org for a list of park areas that allow hunting.

      Waterfowl hunting is available on private and other public lands across the state. Permission is required to hunt on private land.
