Nebraska's unemployment rate was unchanged in December at 4.1%, less than half the national rate of 8.5% and 2-10ths of a point better than the year before, when the national rate was 9.4%.
The jobless rate for Omaha jumped 6-10ths of a point from revised November figures to 4.7%, the same as a year ago, while the rate for Lincoln was 3.6%...up 4-10ths of a point from both November and last year.
The Scotts Bluff micropolitan statistical area had a December unemployment rate of 4%, up 4-10ths of a point from November.
The local rates are not adjusted for seasonal factors the way the state rate is, making direct comparisons to the state figures meaningless.
State Labor Commissioner Catherine Lang says the number of people working in Nebraska last month was up 2.8% or nearly 30,000 from December 2010...topping the 963,000 mark.
Manufacturing jobs continued an upward trend that began in early 2010, adding just over a thousand jobs in December to bring the total to 95,498.
