FEMA....the Federal Emergency Management Agency...has denied financial aid for individual Nebraskans whose homes were damaged earlier this year by powerful rain, flooding and tornadoes.
Gov. Dave Heineman had asked the federal government in June to approve individual assistance in 33 counties where damage to homes was heavy, but FEMA says damage assessments showed homeowners weren't effected badly enought to warrant assistance.
Last month, President Obama issued a federal disaster declaration for most of Nebraska from the June storms and floods. Those federal funds will be used for public infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
