State Senator Deb Fischer of Valentine Wednesday filed the paperwork to officially became a candidate for the U-S Senate. Fischer, who began running last summer, is one of 5 Republicans hoping to replacing retiring Democrat Ben Nelson.
A two-term member of the Nebraska legislature who's term-limited this year, Fischer says she's running because leadership in Washington by "career politicians" is failing the country.
She hopes to bring that out in debates, since her 2 main opponents are 3-term Attorney General and 2-term state senator Jon Bruning and State Treasurer Don Stenberg, a 3-term former attorney general.
One thing Fischer wants to change in Washington is the practice of passing massive spending bills with little to no debate....in her words "in the middle of the night." She wants at least 72-hours between the posting of a bill and any vote in Congress.
Fischer...a life-long rancher....says her record in Lincoln shows she has the leadership skills to get important legislation passed such as measures limiting the power of eminent domain, putting a portion of the state sales tax toward highway projects, and pro-life bills that have helped make Nebraska a leader in protecting the unborn."
