Three California women remain in the Hall County jail awaiting their initial court appearances after being arrested Sunday for allegedly passing passing counterfeit traveler's checks in Kearney.

The Nebraska State Patrol says 30-year-old Khadija Thompson of San Francisco, 22-year-old Arena Adanandos of San Pablo, and 18-year-old Lanesha Paxton, of Stockton had more than $38,000 counterfeit checks in their possession when arrested on I-80 near Grand Island.

The Patrol says the phony traveler's checks had the same serial numbers as the checks passed at businesses in Kearney, and authorities suspect more victims along the trio's route from California.
