Two Chadron State College cowgirls placed among the top five in the averages at the rodeo hosted by Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo., this past weekend.

Lacey Roberts of New Underwood, S.D., finished fourth in goat tying. She was fifth in the first go-round in 9.4 seconds and third in the second go-round in 8.8 seconds.

Jennifer Fenster of Buffalo, Wyo., placed fifth in both barrel racing and breakaway roping. She was second in the first go-round of the barrels in 17.79 seconds and had a time of 18.40 in the second go-round. Fenster roped her first calf in 4.2 seconds and the second in 4.9 to place second and fifth in the go-rounds, respectively.

Another Chadron State entry, Lisa Vroman of Buffalo, S.D., won the first go-round of breakaway roping in 3.2 seconds, but missed the calf on her second run.

Clint Dexter of Anselmo was among the 10 finalists in steer wrestling after completing his first run in 7.1 seconds to place seventh. But his steer “set up” in the second go-round and he took a no time. Del Kraupie of Bridgeport just missed the steer wrestling finals after posting a time of 9.6 seconds in the opening go-round.

The final rodeo of the season in the Central Rocky Mountain Region will be at the University of Wyoming this weekend.
