The Sidney Red Raiders played Class-B #2 South Sioux City tough, but eventually wore down and lost 67-55 this morning in the opening round of the boys state basketball tournament.

Both teams had 5 point leads in the first half. Sidney was down just 1 after a quarter at 15-14, but scored the final 6 points of the half to grab a 1 point lead at the intermission 32-31.

South Sioux City had regained the lead...again by 1...at 49-48 going into the final period, then outscored Sidney 11-3 over the first half of the fourth quarter to take command.

South Sioux held Sidney to a single field goal in the final quarter, and it came with only 1:16 left.

Both teams had 4 players in double figures. South Sioux City was led by sophomore Austin Groth's 25, while Sidney's quartet was topped by senior Bret Bayne with 16.

Matt Rosenbaum added 14 points and 11 rebounds while Collin Harvey had 12 points and Jeremy Tucker 11. The only other Red Raider to score was Lance Christian, who had just 2. Sidney ends the season 15-7.
