Chadron State Men's Basketball coach Brent Bargen has his first signee of the y ear...6-3 Scottsbluff High School standout David Downey. Downey says he loves Bargen's offense, style of play, and coaching staff...with CSC seeming like the best fit for him.
Downey led Scottsbluff last season, averaging 13.9 points a game and 3.3 assists as he made the Scottsbluff Star-Herald's All-Region Boys Basketball First Team. As a junior, he led the Bearcats in scoring at 14.3 points a game while reaching the Class B state semifinals.
Downey picked CSC over Northwest Missouri State and Midland Lutheran...and Bargen glad he did, calling him an "awful smooth player who can score in a variety of ways.
Bargen says he tries to recruit the best players possible...no matter where they're from...but having one come the Panhandle makes signing Downey that much more exciting.
While Downey is Bargen's first recruit of the year, the coach says he's just one severa;l players he plans to sign this month. Chadron State was 8-19 this season, but was competitive in most of its games.
