Petri Kaitlin Petri

Chadron State College’s Kaitlin Petri has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 7 Women’s Basketball Team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be eligible for the all-academic team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA. Since Petri earned first team recognition in his district, she’ll advance to the national ballot.

Petri, a senior from Kearney who has a 3.95 GPA in business administration and was recently named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball All-Academic Player of the Year, has been the Eagles’ top player since joining the program in 2009.

She’s already 13th all time in scoring with 837 points and she became just the second women’s basketball player at CSC to become an All-American when she was placed on the 2009-10 Daktronics All-America Team.

This season, she’s averaging 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and nearly one block a game. She’s currently third in the RMAC in scoring and she’s in the top 20 in assists, rebounds, blocks, and field goal and free throw percentage.

Other student-athletes on the Academic All-District 7 Team are Northern State’s Mikayla Barondeau, Minnesota-Crookston’s Megan Eul, Winona State’s Michelle McDonald and Nebraska-Kearney’s Vanessa Jones.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
