LOCAL SPORTS The Chadron State College volleyball team is picked to finish sixth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference East Division and 12th overall in the Preseason Coaches Poll released Wednesday. Led by the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Katlyn Heiserman and Setter of the Year Cola Svec, the University of Nebraska-Kearney is expected to win the East Division, as well as the conference. The Lopers were 19-0 in the RMAC and 33-3 overall in 2009. The East Division features several talented teams. Including UNK, five of the top six programs are in the East and each team won at least 12 conference matches in 2009. Metro State, which features Preseason Player of the Year Bri Morley, is picked to finish second, Colorado Mines is third, the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs is fifth and Regis is sixth. Mesa State, picked to finish fourth overall, is the top team in the West Division, according to the coaches. The Eagles will wrap up camp Saturday morning at 9:00 with a scrimmage in the Armstrong Gym, then open their season two weeks later on Sept. 3 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Showcase against Midwestern State and Newman University.
