 LOCAL SPORTS Eleven Chadron State College volleyball players will report to the start of fall camp tomorrow, but two of them – Natalie Hadden and Alyssa Norton – won’t be able to practice because of injuries. Unfortunately, both Norton and Hadden will be unable to play this
season. Norton, the team’s top attacker and blocker a season ago,
injured her knee during the track and field season. Hadden, a Bridgeport native and transfer from Doane College who joined the Eagles during the spring, injured her Achilles. Despite the loss of two skilled front row players, fifth-year coach Amy Spruiell is looking forward to the season. “I’m excited to work with the returning class along with the new girls coming in,” she said. “We have a lot of talent to work with and we have an experienced setter in Skye Duncan.” Duncan and transfer Kaitlyn Luikens are the only upperclassmen, but CSC returns a skilled sophomore class with outside hitters Mollie Jones and Lauren Yoder, middle blocker Lexi Hoagland and redshirt freshman Ashley Bargen, a libero. Incoming freshmen Kyla Duncan...Skye's younger sister...Jessica Jester and Aspen Becker will also likely see playing time “I like what we have,” Spruiell said. “It will be a good year for these girls to get experience and it’s going to be very beneficial for us and the program as we move forward.” Even though the Eagles report on tomorrow, they actually won’t start practice until Monday when the team begins two-a-days. The team will end its fall camp with a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. in Armstrong Gymnasium.The Eagles finished the 2009 season with a 5-21 record. They open this year's regular season on Sept. 3-4 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Showcase. The first home match is Sept. 16 against Western New Mexico. Copyright by Double Q Country Radio |
