CHADRON – Chadron State College athletes won 15 of the 25 events and set four meet records Friday evening during the Eagles’ annual Twilight Track and Field Meet in the Nelson Physical Activity Center.

Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines also entered the meet.

The CSC record-setters included sophomore Jazmyn Webster, who cleared 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump. Four athletes shared the old mark of 5-5.

Two Chadron State men set records in the sprints. Sophomore Dean Francis ran the 200 meters in 22.10 seconds to break the mark of 22.26 set by Gary Metcalf of CSC in 2009 and junior Phil Rivera won the 400 in 50.27 seconds to erase the 50.52 mark set by Eagles’ All-American Joel Duffield in 2005.

Rivera also anchored the 4x400-meter relay that set the fourth record. Joining Rivera on the relay were Lincoln Proud, Fred Culp and Kelly Troester. Their time was 3:25.61. The old record of 3:25.90 was posted by Dickinson State in 2009.

Another of the Eagles was a double winner. Junior Karl McFarlane won both the 55-meter hurdles in 7.59 seconds and the triple jump by going 46-3 ½.

Other event winners for the CSC men were Justin Melton, 55 meters, 6.64 seconds; Nathan Faulkner, mile, 4:35.7; and Cody Hunt, shot put, 60-1 ¾.

CSC women winning events besides were junior Trae Patch, 55, 7.54; Monique Fair, 400, 1:00.42; Ashley Riesen, mile, 5:14.15; Stacee Craig, 55 hurdles, 8.78; Brittney Graham, shot put, 44-11 ½; and Kaelie Jelden, pole vault, 10-6.

In addition, Jessica Horsley, a CSC graduate assistant who set both the school record and the meet record last year, proved she can still heave the 20-pound weight while winning that event with a mark of 56-6 ¾.
