LOCAL SPORTS The spring snow storm that caused a revision in year-ending activities at Chadron State College last weekend also caused problems for several members of the CSC rodeo team who were to compete at the University of Wyoming rodeo in Laramie. Because highways into Laramie were closed until late Friday, three team members, Clint Dexter, Del Kraupie and Levi Lauing, were unable to compete in their events during slack on Friday afternoon, according to Shar Sapp, the CSC rodeo coach. A CSC cowgirl, Lacey Roberts of New Underwood, S.D., continued to be one of the leading goat tiers in the Central Rocky Mountain Region. She shared eighth place in the first go-round in 8.1 seconds and was third in the second go-round in 7.4 seconds to finish fourth in the averages. Sapp said Roberts was among the 10 finalists in goat tying at nine of the 10 rodeos in the region this year. “She’s just a sophomore and should really do well in that event the next two years,” Sapp noted. A CSC senior, Jennifer Fenster of Buffalo, Wyo., caught her first calf in 3.6 seconds during the breakway roping, but did not catch her second calf. Two young tie-down ropers had good times at Laramie. Bridger Chytka of Hemingford caught and tied his calf in 12.1 seconds and Tanner Lauing of Oral, S.D., completed his run in 12.7 seconds. They finished 13th and 16th in the first go-round standings. Copyright by Double Q Country Radio |
