CHADRON – Five Chadron State College men
scored in double figures and three had career highs as the Eagles
cruised to an 83-58 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over
Western State Friday at Armstrong Gymnasium.
The Eagles shot over 49% from the field (27-of-55) for the
second straight game and held Western State to under 35% while improving to 7-13 overall and 7-10 in the
RMAC.
The game was tied at 22-22 with five minutes to play in the first
half but the Eagles closed out the Mountaineers with a 13-2 scoring run.
The Eagles weren’t threatened the remainder of the game and kept
their intensity up in the second half, with the final margin of
25 points their biggest lead of the night.
Tim McDavid, Kyle Vinich and Drew Finch all had career-high scoring
nights for Chadron State. McDavid paced CSC with a team-high 13 points,
Vinich had 10 and Finch scored 4 late in the game.
The Eagles also got 12 points and 6 rebounds from Chris Curtis while Kevin McClelland and Christian McGhee each had 10 points and Moala
Tautuaa scored 8.
Charles Joseph, who stands 6-8 and weighs 328 pounds, led Western State with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Six of his boards were on the offensive end.
The Eagles are scheduled to play Colorado Mesa University Saturday at 8 pm, but treacherous weather conditions between Chadron and Kearney, where Mesa played Friday night, could push the game back to Sunday at 2 pm.
A decision on whether or not to postpone is expected by noon Saturday.
