The Chadron Titans came up short in their bid for the Nebraska Baseball Association Class B State title, as they lost to the Colorado Bombers of Haxtun 8-2 yesterday in Sidney. It was the first time the championship game featured 2 teams from the West

Haxtun had the easier path to the finals. They demolished Aurora in the first round 16-0, then topped Crofton in a pitcher's duel 3-1 to reach the championship game.

Chadron had to come back in both of its first 2 games. Playing in the rain Friday, the Titans beat Sidney 7-3. The Titans took a 1-0 lead in the 1st, but Sidney scored 3 unearned runs in the 3rd.

Chadron answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game, then grabbed the lead with 3 in the 5th and added another in the 6th for the final 7-3 margin.

Saturday, Chadron handed Yutan its first loss of the season after 18 wins...7-5. The Titans fell behind 3-0 in the bottom of the 1st, but rallied to go up 4-3. Yutan tied the game in the 5th, only to see Chadron score twice in the 6th to take the lead again 6-4.

Yutan closed the gap to 6-5 in the bottom of the inning, but Chadron got an insurance run in the top of the 7th and then took the victory.

The  Class A state championship game in Kearney saw the 2nd-ranked home team jump out to an 11-2 lead over the 6th-ranked Reds of Lincoln, then hold on for a 13-8 victory.

It was 2-and-out in the tournament for the SB/Gering Valley Bank Bruins. They dropped a heart-breaker in the opening round to Kearney 3-2, then were blown out in an elimination game Saturday 14-0 by the Lincoln Diablos.
