Wyoming environmental officials say an oily residue settled on homes and cars Wednesday night after an accidental release from the Wyoming Refinery Company refinery in Newcastle.
Department of Environmental Quality staffers have been sent to the refinery to continue the investigation into what happened.
DEQ officials say refinery workers were restarting equipment at about 10 p.m. when the release occurred. Wyoming Refinery vice president Bob Neufeld says a power failure most likely caused the equipment to shut down.
Neufeld says there's no human health risk associated with the oily substance, but he advised Newcastle residents to avoid ingesting it or letting it come in contact with their skin.
He also says the company is working with residents to clean up cars and houses.
