The U-S Forest Service is conducting a prescribed burn today near Oelrichs.
Controlled fires are held only within a relatively narrow window of weather conditions, and postponed if those conditions aren't met.
This burn is in the Limestone Dam area about 3 miles southeast of Oelrichs and 2 miles south of U.S. Highway 18, and is being conducted on on 240 acres of rangeland.
Fall River District Ranger Mike McNeill says the parcels have been fenced to keep out grazing for many years, allowing a buildup of fuels.
The fire intended to promote vegetative diversity, improve wildlife habitat, and reduce the chances of a major fire by reducing the fuel load.
McNeill says the results of the burn will help provide the Forest Service with important monitoring information for the management of the range program on the Fall River Ranger District.
