Sidney School Superintendent John Hakonson is leaving after 10 years for the same job with the Lexington Public Schools.
The Sidney school board is meeting tonight in special session to consider his resignation and set the process for hiring a replacement.
Although happy with Sidney, Hakonson is excited about the new challenge of a larger district...saying the time is right for professional advancement and that Lexington is an ideal location for his family.
He plans to stay with the Sidney schools until his current contract runs out at the end of June.
