The latest edition of the You Drink, You Drive, You Lose national anti-drunk driving campaign wraps up on Monday...with law enforcement agencies across the country out in force.
In Nebraska, grants to cover the costs of overtime went to nearly 50 law enforcement agencies to have officers put extra hours on streets and highways. The Nebraska State Patrol received $33,000.
Patrol Lt Lance Rogers of Scottsbluff says a portion of the grant money has put more troopers out in all parts of the Panhandle..
Lt Rogers says the key to the weekend is high-visibility for law enforcement...which means not just having a lot of officers driving the streets and highways, but also special enforcement events that may involve traffic checks.
Lt Rogers says all the agencies involved have the same goal for the Labor Day weekend, and it's not writing more tickets: it's to be a visible reminder to drive safely and get through the holiday with no traffic fatalities...especially not from drinking and driving.
Four local law enforcement agencies in the Panhandle also have You Drink, You Drive, You lose grants...the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department and Chadron, Gering, and Scottsbluff police department.
