Mike Marshall is this summer's final Native American Artist-in-Resident at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, and will be in the visitor center from 9-5 through Monday with a variety of items to look at, talk about and sell.
Marshall will also present a program twice daily...at 11:00 and 2:00...in the visitor center theater. He calls his presentation "Woskate," which means "to play” in the Lakota language, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day of the weekend.
An enrolled member of the Sicangu Lakota Tribe, Marshall uses hides, bone beads and paint to create work decorative utilitarian objects such as containers, spoons, toys, buffalo robes, and jewelry that are highly-prized by collectors.
Marshall normally exhibits his work at his own gallery, Marshall’s Art, on the Rosebud Reservation, but he's also a hunting guide and is always willing to demonstrate and teach people about his culture and the work he creates.
