The first art shows of the new school year have opened in the two Memorial Hall galleries at Chadron State College.
The largest is in the Main Gallery and continues the school's long-running role as a host of the annual touring exhibits from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Sheldon Museum of Art.
“Messaging: Text and Visual Art” consists of prints, photographs and multimedia exploring the function of messaging and the use of text in art. It includes works by Marcel Duchamp, Barbara Kruger, Walter Robinson and Carrie Mae Weems.
Filling the smaller Gallery 239 on the second floor of Memorial Hall is a photography exhibit by Russ Finch of Alliance. His show features colorful scenes of the region.
The Memorial Hall galleries are scheduled to host a total of 16 exhibits this school year...drawing on professional artists from around the nation as well as Chadron State students and faculty.
The galleries are open to the public free of charge from 9 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.
