SEVERAL DAWES COUNTY RESIDENTS TO BE HONORED DURING SUNDAY CEREMONY

Several Dawes County residents will be recognized during an awards ceremony Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. the Dawes County Fairgrounds grandstand.

Four inductions will be made into the Dawes County Agricultural Hall of Fame. Inductees include: Jackie Cullan and Mary Manion, both farm wives from the Table south of Chadron; Melburn and Marvina Franey (FrAy-nee), who farmed and ranched in the Crawford area for more than 50 years. The Franeys recently moved to Chadron. Also, Charlie and Dan Littrel, owners of Littrel Construction of Chadron, will be inducted.

Two Nebraska Pioneer Farm Awards will be presented. They will go to the Connell Family at Whitney and to the Chaulk-Halsted Farm owned by Dorothy Hallsted about 14 miles southeast of Chadron. The families have owned the land they live on for more than a century.

The annual Fair Person of the Year Award will be presented to Roy and Elaine Liebbrant, owners of Chadron Concrete, for their continued efforts in helping to improve the Dawes County fairgrounds.

Also to be recognized are five individuals who helped Ted and Susan Vastine maintain their property after Ted, the former Chadron chief of police, had heart surgery last summer. The five will receive Good Neighbor Awards. They are Clint and Sonja Bruhn, Russ Harford, Kevin Waugh and Jeff Fox.

Four Conservation Awards also will be given by the Upper White-Niobrara Natural Resources District. Those recipients are the Chadron Earth Day Committee, Gary and Nancy Fisher of Crawford and Brian and Carol Iodence and Eric and Nancy Nixon, who reside in the Dunlap are of southern Dawes County.
