LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ The Nebraska National Guard has a new leader.

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman on Friday announced that Col. Judd Lyons of Omaha will be Nebraska's adjutant general. He replaces Maj. Gen. Tim Kadavy, who will be moving to Washington to become deputy director of the Army National Guard.

Lyons has served more than 29 years with the Nebraska National Guard, holding numerous command and staff positions. The 47-year-old Lyons recently became the director of the joint staff, where he is responsible for budget, personnel management, training and equipment for the Nebraska National Guard.

Heineman says Lyons understands the deployment challenges that Guard members face. Lyons will lead more than 4,800 personnel making up the Nebraska National Guard.
