CHADRON - Applications are now available for the third annual Miss Chadron/Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen pageant, set for Sunday, September 20, 2009 in Chadron

The pageant is open to all female Nebraska resident teens who are at least 13 years old (by May 1, 2010) and no older than 17 and in 11th grade.

The Outstanding Teen pageant is under the Nebraska Outstanding Teen Competition, which is held under the Miss America Organization. It is designed to promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America's Teens.

The winners of the Miss Chadron and Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen titles will receive paid entrance to the state pageant, held in North Platte in June, 2010, where they will compete for the title of Nebraska's Outstanding Teen. The winner of the state pageant will receive a $1,000 savings bond and be eligible to compete for the title of America's Outstanding Teen in August, 2010.

Pageant director Riki Hunter is excited to be preparing for the 3rd annual pageant. "Once again, we are trying a new approach to the pageant. We are going back to a Sunday pageant – with the pageant taking place at 3 PM. I find so many girls want to compete but can't because of Saturday sports competitions. I'm hoping this change will cater to their busy schedules. I also am simplifying the pageant because I've found that we end up with a lot of unnecessary downtime in the afternoon during rehearsals."

Contestants in the outstanding teen competition will be judged based on interview, talent, sportswear, eveningwear and on-stage question. There will also be a separate overall community service competition, audience choice and Miss Congeniality voting that do not count in the overall scoring. A silent auction fundraiser will also take place during the pageant.

The Miss Chadron/Miss Northwest Outstanding Teen Pageant will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday September 20 at the Chadron High School auditorium. For more information or to request a contestant packet, please call Riki Hunter at 308-430-4355 or email maoteenchadron@gmail.com.
