At approximately 3:30 this (Friday) afternoon, Chadron Volunteer Fire Dept was called to a grass/timber fire just south and east of the Hidden Valley Dr. area south of Chadron.
Mutual aid has been called in from Crawford. At this time, the fire is moving towards the east and is not believed to be threatening any homes or structures.
No evacuations are being planned at this time.
The Chadron Police Department asks the public's cooperation and stay away from the South Maple and South Ridgeview Road area in Chadron to not hamper fire units needing to get in and out of the fire area.
Should an evacuation be ordered, affected residents will be notified. However, again, no evacuation is being planned at this time. Information will be passed on to local media outlets in the event an evacuation should be ordered.
