The Chadron Police Department responded to a reported hit-and-run accident in the 200 block of Morehead Street around 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Upon arrival, officers found two parked vehicles, one of which sustained rear end damage estimated at a total loss and the second vehicle sustained rear end damage estimated at about $3000.

Witnesses told officers on scene that the third vehicle involved had left the area northbound on Morehead Street and drove into a garage near 2nd and Morehead Street.

Officers had contact with Sheldon W. McCance, 44, near the intersection of 2nd and Morehead Street. Officers continued with their accident investigation and found McCance's vehicle parked inside a closed garage near 2nd and Morehead Street, which had sustained about $2000 in damage to the front passenger area.

The officers investigation led to McCance's arrest for Fourth Offense Driving Under the Influence of alcohol, which is a class III Felony, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The accident investigation found that McCance had turned off of 3rd Street and traveled northbound on Morehead Street in the 200 block colliding with two vehicles parked on the East side of Morehead Street.

McCance was transported to the Dawes County Jail.

The Nebraska State Patrol assisted with the investigation.
