West Plains Grain Fire. Tuesday, December 22, 2009.

Chadron police says a fire at West Plains Grain on the west end of their community has been contained and an investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin later today (Tuesday).
Chadron Police Lt. Rick Hickstein says approximately 100 people in a four block area near the elevator were evacuated for about an hour and a half after the call came in around six a.m.
Hickstein says the Chadron fire department was able to keep the fire from spreading to the fuel tanks or the elevator’s office area, and was still at the scene keeping the fire contained to the area where corn and other grains are stored.
The elevator, located at
502 West First Street, is the only elevator in Chadron.
