The NFL combine is underway in Indianapolis, but Chadron State star Danny Woodhead isn't there...even though Eagle coach Bill O'Boyle told earlier this winter by the man in charge of the combine that it was "99% certain" that Woodhead would be invited.

O'Boyle says what happened was the large number of running backs who decided to leave college early and enter the NFL draft. Bringing them into Indianapolis filled up the slot Woodhead would have received.

O'Boyle says Woodhead will still be able to show NFL scouts and personnel staffers what he can do up close, just like the D-1 players who weren't invited to the combine.

O'Boyle says Woodhead is already scheduled to attend the March 12th pro workout day at UNL with several Huskers and players from other schools.

O'Boyle...who talked with Woodhead by phone earlier this week...says college football's alltime leading rusher remains upbeat and even more focused than ever on his workouts.

Woodhead decided to skip the spring semester to put his full attention and emphasis on his bid to make the NFL.
