Two Chadron State receivers are getting another chance to play one
more college football game. Brandon Harrington and Isaac Stockton have
each been selected to play in the 2010 Valero Cactus Bowl on January 8
at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.
The Valero Cactus Bowl is an NCAA Division II All-Star game that is
in its 16th year. The game was originally called the Snow Bowl and
played in Fargo, N.D., but was moved to Kingsville in 2001. All net
profits from the Cactus Bowl are donated to Shriners Hospitals for
Children.
Harrington, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound wide receiver from Grand Island is
one of three players to play in 50 games and ranks fourth all-time at
CSC with 154 receptions. His 1,917 receiving yards are the seventh most
in school history. He also averaged 26.0 yards each kickoff return
during his career.
During the 2009 season, he led the Eagles with 42 catches for 575
yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 18 kicks for an average of
27.4 yards.
Harrington is a two-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and
All-Nebraska Division II First Team selection, and a Daktronics Super
Region 3 Second Team honoree. In 2009, he was named to the ESPN The
Magazine District 7 Academic First Team. He’s also been placed on the
RMAC All-Academic First Team three straight years for having a 3.76 GPA
in health and physical education.
Stockton, a 6-3, 238-pound inside receiver from Colorado Springs,
had the ability to make the difficult look routine. For his career, he
made 145 receptions (sixth most in school history) and scored 19
touchdowns (second in school history).
In 2009, he was second on the team with 41 receptions for 395 yards and three scores.
He’s been named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team
the past two seasons, as well as being a Daktronics Super Region III
Second Team selection in 2008 and 2009.
In addition, he was named to All-Nebraska Division II First Team and the Football Gazette Super Region III First Team in 2008.
