KINGSVILLE, Texas – Although the Chadron State football team didn’t qualify for the playoffs this season, Brandon Harrington and Isaac Stockton are enjoying their time in the postseason, playing for the West Team at the Valero Cactus Bowl this Friday.

Harrington and Stockton arrived in Kingsville, Texas, on Saturday to play in the annual Division II all-star game and have been practicing and going through NFL-style testing all week. Members of the East and West teams have also spent time with host families and attended various activities.

“It’s been fun doing all the events they’ve planned for us here,” Harrington said. “I’ve really learned a lot since I’ve been here.”

The Valero Cactus Bowl kicks off at 6:35 p.m. (CST) on Friday at Javelina Stadium. The game will be featured on Fox College Sports, channel 617 on DirecTV, and will also be webcast at www.cactusbowl.org.

“It’s been a great experience so far,” Stockton said. “All the players here are very talented and I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know the different people. The game is going to be a great time.”

The Cactus Bowl features 85 players, including four Harlon Hill Trophy finalists, nine American Football Coaches Association All-Americans and 20 Daktronics All-Americans.

Both Harrington and Stockton had distinguished careers as receivers at Chadron State.

Harrington, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound wide receiver from Grand Island is one of three players to play in 50 games and ranks fourth all-time at CSC with 154 receptions. His 1,917 receiving yards are the seventh most in school history. He also averaged 26.0 yards each kickoff return during his career.

During the 2009 season, he led the Eagles with 42 catches for 575 yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 18 kicks for an average of 27.4 yards.

Harrington is a two-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and All-Nebraska Division II First Team selection, and a Daktronics Super Region 3 Second Team honoree. In 2009, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine District 7 Academic First Team. He’s also been placed on the RMAC All-Academic First Team three straight years for having a 3.76 GPA in health and physical education.

Stockton, a 6-3, 238-pound inside receiver from Colorado Springs, had 145 receptions (sixth most in school history) and scored 19 touchdowns (second in school history).

In 2009, he was second on the team with 41 receptions for 395 yards and three scores.

He’s been named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team the past two seasons, as well as being a Daktronics Super Region III Second Team selection in 2008 and 2009.

In addition, he was named to All-Nebraska Division II First Team and the Football Gazette Super Region III First Team in 2008.
