CSC FOOTBALL SIGNS 7 MORE PLAYERS

Seven additional student-athletes will join the Chadron State College football team after signing letters of intent in March.

They are Jordan Beebout of North Platte, Mike Sandstrom of Chadron, Kurtis Wilson of Douglas, Wyo., Jan (John) Karlos Medina of Des Moines, Iowa, Cornelius Burford of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Chad Kurz of Ventura, Calif., and Brandon Parham of West Covina, Calif.

The CSC football recruiting class now has 39 players, including 15 from Nebraska, seven from California, five from Colorado, three from Wyoming, two from Illinois and Alabama, and one from Iowa, Alaska, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Utah.

JORDAN BEEBOUT, North Platte, Neb., 5-7, 155 pounds, cornerback

A versatile athlete who was a two-year starter at North Platte High School … At cornerback his senior season, he recorded 40 tackles and two interceptions … Also returned punts and kickoffs … Joins teammate Joel Woodhead in 2008 recruiting class … Became interested in CSC after watching several of the Eagles’ games the past few years … Competes in track and field, running the 100 and 400 relay, and the pole vault … Son of Mark and Debbie Beebout.

CORNELIUS BURFORD, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., 6-2, 240 pounds, defensive end

Another California player who brings a lot of experience to CSC … A four-year letterwinner and a three-year starter at Los Osos High School, Burford was named all-league at defensive end his senior year for recording 60 tackles and six sacks … He also forced two fumbles and recovered two … Also competed in track and field but decided to concentrate solely on football … Chose CSC because he wanted to get out of his “comfort zone,” he said … Plans to major in pre-medicine … Son of Mannicha Wright and Cornelius John Burford.

CHAD KURZ, Ventura, Calif., 6-3, 185 pounds, defensive back

A tall, fast defensive back who was named the defensive MVP of the county while at St. Bonaventure High School … A two-year starter, Kurz led the team in interceptions as a senior … Has been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.46 seconds … He competed in the hurdles for his high school track team three years, but chose to play on the school’s volleyball team as a senior … Enjoys the Midwest and holds the CSC coaching staff in high regard … Son of Kashia and Randy Kurz.

JAN KARLOS MEDINA, Des Moines, Iowa, 6-3, 250 pounds, defensive tackle

Came to the United States from Puerto Rico hoping to earn a football scholarship in America and CSC granted his wish … During his only year at East High School, he recorded 68 tackles, 10 sacks, two safeties and blocked a field goal … Also played offensive tackle in high school … Named first-team all-conference … Began the wrestling season, but decided to focus entirely on football … Jan (pronounced John) is the son of Carlos and Hellen Westerband.

BRANDON PARHAM, West Covina, Calif., 6-2, 200 pounds, wide receiver

A physical receiver with good speed … In 2007 at South Hills High School, he had 30 receptions for over 600 yards and he scored eight touchdowns … Excelled on defense at free safety, too … In each of his final three high school games he returned an interception for a touchdown … Was named to several first teams, including all-league, all-area and all-CIS … Was also recently selected to the play in the High School Hall of Fame Game … Also competes in basketball and track and field … Son of Richard Parham and Denise Munoz.

MIKE SANDSTROM, Chadron, Neb., 6-0, 225 pounds, offensive line

A hometown product who is expected to give the Eagles depth at offensive line … Was a two-year starter at Chadron High on the offensive line, while the Cardinals posted a 16-3 record, including two playoff wins … As a senior, he was named to the all-conference and all-region teams and he was an honorable mention on the all-state team … An excellent student who has a 4.0 GPA, he earned the Eagle Presidential Scholarship to attend CSC … Also competes in basketball and track and field … Plans to major in social science and history … Son of Rob and JoAnn Sandstrom.

KURTIS WILSON, Wheatland, Wyo., 6-1, 220 pounds, defensive end

An experienced and versatile defensive player who started all four years at Wheatland High School on the defensive line or at middle linebacker … Was an all-state selection as a senior and all-conference as a junior … A talented wrestler, he won the Wyoming Class 3A championship at 215 pounds in February … In addition to his gold medal, he finished third as a junior and fourth as a sophomore at 189 … Son of Kirby and Lynn Wilson.
