CSC FOOTBALL
21 players have now signed letters of intent to play football at Chadron State College. The Eagles had 16 letters processed by the end of the workday yesterday, the first day of signing, and had 5 more by mid-morning today. The best-known name in the second group is Joel Woodhead...younger brother of just-departed All-American and all-time college rushing record holder Danny Woodhead and former wide receiver Ben Woodhead. He is also a running back, but split time at North Platte High School. The group also includes 2 more area players...Alliance defensive end Kyle Hinton and Scottsbluff back Cody Wilson. Hinton was a 3-year, 2-way starter for the Bulldogs while Hinton did a little of everything for Scottsbluff in earning all-district honors on both sides of the ball. They join 2 other local stars announced yesterday, running back Matt Harris of Alliance...the Scottsbluff Star-Herald Regional Player of the Year...and Chadron High fullback Cody Roes, who is projected to play inside receiver for the Eagles. Harris continues a family football legacy at Chadron State. His grandfather Dick Boness and uncle Bill Boness are both members of the CSC Athletic Hall of Fame while great-uncle Barry Harris was a 4-year starter at linebacker for the Eagles. Also continuing a family tradition is linebacker David McCulley of Colorado's Wheat Ridge High School...whose brother Mike is a junior wide receiver for the Eagles. His high school teammate, linebacker Brogan Voltz, has also signed with CSC. The 21 players signed so far include 12 from Nebraska, 2 each from Illinois and Colorado, and 1 each from Wyoming, Alabama, Missouri, Utah and California. Only 1 is a junior college transfer. There are 6 defensive linemen, 4 wide receivers, 3 offensive linemen...2 linebackers, running backs, and defensive backs, and one quarterback.
