Whoever Chadron State picks as its new head football coach had better be ready to do a lot of traveling.

The 2012 schedule released this week has the Eagles on the road for 7 of its 11 games, including 4 trips of over 600 miles to Texas, Montana, Colorado, and New Mexico.

This will be the first time Chadron State has played 7 road games, the result of a home-and-home arrangement that brought San Angelo State of Texas to Chadron last year and the chance this year to play Division I FCS-member Montana State....which carries a nice financial guarantee.

The Eagles start with 3 road games. The first is September 1st in Bozeman with their first meeting with Montana State since beating the Bobcats 35-24 in 2006, a victory that helped kick off a 3-year run of undefeated Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference seasons and championships.

After heading northwest to Bozeman, they'll go southeast the following week to San Angelo, Texas...about 150 miles southwest of Dallas. Last year, Angelo State came to Chadron and came from down 21 in the fourth quarter for a 49-42 victory in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

The RMAC for the Eagles also begins on the road, September 15th at Colorado Mesa and new head coach Russ Martin, a Chadron State graduate and former Nebraska-Kearney offensive coordinator whose staff will include longtime CSC defensive coordinator Todd Auer.

They finally play at home September 22nd when they welcome Western State and head coach Jas Bains, a former CSC assistant who has 3 other ex-Eagles on his staff.

Then it's back on the road for games at Adams State on the 29th and RMAC champion Colorado State-Pueblo on October 6th.

After that, home and away games alternate. Black Hills State makes its first trip to Chadron State since 1995 and its first as a member of the RMAC on October 13th.

The Yellow Jackets are led by former Eagle football player and wrestler Jay Long, who has 2 more ex-Eagles as his coordinators. Black Hills is taking Kearney's spot in the RMAC rotation.

Chadron State heads to New Mexico Highlands October 20th, returning home for Western New Mexico on the 27th, and traveling to Fort Lewis on November 3rd before hosting the season finale against Colorado School of Mines on Nov. 10.

Chadron State finished the 2011 season with a 6-5 record.
