Former Alliance City Manager Lyle Lacy has passed away at hiss home in Virginia at age 63 after a battle with cancer. Lacy was city manager in Alliance in the late 1980s and early 1990s. One of the highlights of his tenure was the modernization and upgrade of the city landfill.
Lacy was one of architects with the city managers of Gordon and Chadron...Fred Hlava and the late Carl Dierks...of SWANN, the Solid Waste Agency of Northwest Nebraska, although Alliance eventually decided to go ahead with its own landfill project rather than join SWANN.
Lacy was a city manager for nearly 4 decades, beginning in 1973 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He also served in Marietta, Georgia, and Front Royal, Virginia, before moving to Danville, Virginia, as deputy City Manager in 1999. He moved up to the top job 2 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Walden Lacy, a son, daughter, and 3 grandchildren as well as his mother and 2 brothers.
A memorial service will be held at Townes Funeral Home Chapel in Danville on Sunday, March 14th at 2:00 PM. The family will greet friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Lyle's honor to the United Way of Danville or Commonwealth Hospice.
