ALLIANCE SAFE HAVEN HEARING SET

ALLIANCE, Neb. (AP) - A court hearing is set for Aug. 18 to determine what's next for an infant left at an Alliance hospital under the state's safe-haven law. 
     
State officials say an infant left at an Alliance hospital under the state's safe-haven law has been placed with a woman believed to be his grandmother. A woman who is believed to be the boy's mother is living with them, too.
     
State officials say a court deemed the placement appropriate for now, although they await DNA test results to prove the mother and infant are related.
     
It's unknown when those results might be available. 
    
The woman asked for the infant back July 22 as state officials were making plans to place him in foster care. Her sister had dropped the baby off at the hospital on July 20.
     
Court documents say the mother did not know she was pregnant until she gave birth in a bath tub full of water.
     
The baby was the first infant left at a Nebraska hospital since the state revised its safe-haven law last fall, adding an age maximum of 30 days.
