WOODHEAD A DRADDY FINALIST

With so much attention on Danny Woodhead's record-breaking on-field exploits, a lot of people overlook his academic achievements, but not the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.

It's named Woodhead as one of 153 semifinalists for the 2007 Draddy Trophy, considered the academic version of the Heisman since its inception in 1990.

Woodhead, a math education major, was both an All-American and Academic All-American last fall. He began this fall semester with a 3.72 GPA.

Danny is just the second CSC player to be a Draddy semifinalist, but he's also the second in his family. His older brother Ben was a semifinalist in 2005.

Danny Woodhead is the only player from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference to make the Draddy list, while the only other one in Nebraska is Cornhusker tight end J-B Phillips.

Up to 15 finalists will be announced two weeks from today on the 25th. Each finalist will be recognized as part of the 2007 National Scholar- Athlete Class and receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship.

The Draddy winner, who gets a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship, will be announced at the NFF's Annual Awards Dinner December 4 in New York City.

The Draddy Trophy,named for a former chairman of the National Football Foundation, recognizes the senior considered the absolute best player in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.

Past Draddy winners include two Rhodes Scholars and 1996 Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel of Florida. Nebraska has produced two Draddy winners, offensive lineman Robert Zatechka in 1994 and Kyle Vanden Bosch in 1994, while Peyton Manning was the 1997 recipient.

Schools are limited to a single Draddy candidate, and Woodhead is one of just 16 semifinalists from NCAA Division-Two. 67 are from the Football Bowl Subdivision - formerly Division 1-A - with 40 from 1-AA - now the Championship Subdivision. 24 play in Division-3 and 6 in the NAIA.
