OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Republican Hal Daub says when he launched his bid for U.S. Senate, he didn't think Mike Johanns would quit his post as U.S. Agriculture Secretary and run for fellow Republican Chuck Hagel's seat.

Daub says he thought it would be tough to raise enough money to beat Hagel in a primary, and thinks it will be just as tough against Johanns.

Daub, a former congressman and Omaha mayor, says he's ending his campaign 11 days after entering the race.

Johanns hasn't announced his candidacy, but he's expected to do so soon. Many believe he'll be the candidate most heavily backed by the national Republican Party.

Paid ads for Daub are still running on several Nebraska television stations, and his campaign Web site was still running immediately after his announcement today.
