Lilly P. “Billie” Grabher, 82, died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance. She was born on February 4, 1925 to Mildred and William Darlington in Butte, MT. The young family moved to Chadron, NE where Billie graduated from Chadron Prep School. Following graduation, Billie moved to Alliance where she worked in accounting at Montgomery Ward.

Billie married Lawrence Grabher on Oct. 20, 1946 in Chadron. They made their home on the Grabher family farm 10 miles east of Hemingford. During their 60 years of marriage, she helped Lawrence with the farm and was active in the United Methodist Church, the Progressive Home Study Club, and the District 40 School Board. Together, they raised two daughters; Sandra (Jeffrey) Wood of Golden, CO and Gayle (Michael) Dietrich of Alliance who survive her.

Billie is also survived by her grand-daughters; Morgan Dietrich (a sophomore at Doane), Lissy (Clay) Barnes of Lincoln, and Sheri (Jon) Daniels of Chadron and two great grand children, Macey and Brady Daniels. Additionally, she is survived by one sister, Dorothy Gentleman of Amarillo, TX and one brother, Thomas (Lois) Darlington of Scottsbluff.

Lawrence preceded her in death as did her parents and older sister, Mary Jane Haner of Council Bluffs, IA.

A visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, September 24, at the Bates-Gould Funeral home in Alliance.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford. Father Jerald Grabher of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, MO will officiate along with Pastor Jeri Soens.

Burial in the Hemingford Cemetery will be followed by luncheon at the Country Club in Alliance.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association of the Great Plains, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
